\u201cI thought, well, I know a small amount of first aid, so I can get over there and see what I can do.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou see someone lying there and you always hope they\u2019re all right.\u201d<\/p>\n

Uffindell said shortly after he pulled over, the Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service chairman Brent Warner was also driving by.<\/p>\n

\u201cBrent\u2019s a great guy and obviously highly trained in looking after people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Uffindell said he has first aid training and became a lifeguard recently, but was vastly less experienced than Warner.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was great to have him there, and he knew all the right questions to ask and to check on her and make sure that she was okay,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

Uffindell said they found the woman\u2019s phone, which they later used to contact her loved ones.<\/p>\n

He confirmed she was in safe hands with ambulance crews. <\/p>\n

\u201cKiwis are a caring bunch, so yeah, everyone did what they could.\u201d<\/p>\n

A witness passing through traffic at the time said he saw a DX courier motorcycle driver on the ground after the accident. <\/p>\n

\u201cI just saw police beside him and there was a local MP, I think it was Sam Uffindell\u2019s car on the side of the road and another black car.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was a bit of a traffic jam because of it,\u201d the witness said. <\/p>\n

Police said they were alerted to the single-vehicle crash on Te Awanui Drive, Tauranga, about 3.10pm today. <\/p>\n

Hato Hone St John said they were on scene after being notified at 3.07pm.<\/p>\n

The spokesperson said one ambulance attended and one person was in minor condition.<\/p>\n
