Not even the man who wrote \u201cYesterday\u201d is immune to harboring a grudge or two<\/a> when it comes to making sure people know how big and strong and tall he is. Paul McCartney let that be known while appearing on Good Hang With Amy Poehler<\/a>, admitting that he feels Beatles biopics have slighted him with the actors cast to portray him, especially in comparison to John Lennon. It began with 2009\u2019s Nowhere Boy, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and starring Thomas Brodie-Sangster (a.k.a. the Love Actually cutie) as Macca. \u201cYou know I got a thing about that, do you? We were all the same height, and Ringo was a bit smaller,\u201d he explained. \u201cThe John character, he\u2019s bigger than me in the film. My character is kind of wimpy, smaller than John. John knocks me to the floor. It\u2019s like, Sam, this is not true. She said, \u2018This is a movie; it\u2019s not a documentary.\u2019 And I thought, Well, I don\u2019t like that explanation. But I couldn\u2019t do anything.\u201d About Nowhere Boy\u2019s narrative decisions, McCartney added, \u201cThere was I, the little Paul, and John the great big hero. And it\u2019s like, no, that\u2019s not true.\u201d This opinion has now shifted to Sam Mendes\u2019s quartet of Beatles biopics<\/a>, in which McCartney is being portrayed by Paul Mescal.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd guess what? He\u2019s smaller than the guy who plays John,\u201d he said of Mescal, who\u2019s currently in production for the films. Like he did with Taylor-Johnson, McCartney contacted Mendes to give the director a piece of his mind. \u201cI said, \u2018Sam, I\u2019ve got just one thing that I need to say to you.\u2019 I don\u2019t know how Sam is going to deal with it. He sent me a picture, a still, from the filming they were doing and they\u2019re crossing the Abbey Road crossing. And the Paul character is markedly smaller. I texted him, \u2018Sam! Smaller! Don\u2019t do this. You said you wouldn\u2019t do it!\u2019 He said, \u2018No, it\u2019s okay, it\u2019s just the stride pattern.\u2019\u201d Promo shots released from the four biopics indeed show Harris Dickinson, who won the Lennon role, with a good few inches<\/a> over Mescal.
