Untelevised team radio footage from the Singapore Grand Prix has revealed the moment Liam Lawson<\/a> admitted he \u201cpanicked a bit\u201d at the prospect of being caught by Mercedes<\/a> driver George Russell.<\/p>\n

Lawson was also heard laughing about being \u201cpretty f**ked\u201d at the end of the most physically demanding race of the season.<\/p>\n

Liam Lawson team radio emerges after Singapore Grand Prix \u2018panic\u2019<\/p>\n

Lawson claimed a second successive seventh-place finish in Singapore as Red Bull driver Max Verstappen took victory.<\/p>\n

The New Zealander\u2019s latest points finish strengthened the Racing Bulls team\u2019s grip on fifth place in the constructors\u2019 standings.<\/p>\n

The Faenza-based outfit holds a 32-point advantage over sixth-placed Alpine with a maximum of six races remaining in the F1 2026 campaign.<\/p>\n

Lawson crossed the line around two seconds clear of Audi driver Nico Hulkenberg in eighth, with George Russell\u2019s Mercedes a further second behind in ninth after recovering from an engine penalty.<\/p>\n

Untelevised footage has revealed how Lawson was wary of the threat posed by Russell as the end of the race neared.<\/p>\n

An exchange between Lawson and his race engineer, Alexandre Iliopoulos, from Lap 40 went as follows:<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos: \u201cCurrently P7. Gasly and Hulkenberg fighting behind you, Russell behind them. All three cars behind you, soft. Twenty-two laps to go.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos: \u201cHulkenberg gaining between Turn 1 and Turn 2.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos: \u201cOn our numbers, we have margin to push more on rears if you want.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawson: \u201cCopy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos: \u201cWe are happy to manage this gap to Hulkenberg.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawson: \u201cYeah, but Russell\u2019s gonna be here soon.\u201d<\/p>\n

A few laps later, Lawson became frustrated after being held up by a lapped Sergio Perez. The full exchange for the remainder of the race went as follows:<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos: \u201cFor info, Russell is still stuck behind Gasly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos:\u00a0\u201cPerez in front will be blue flags.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawson: \u201cWhere the f**k are the blue flags?\u201d<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos: \u201cIt\u2019s coming now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos: \u201cHappy for boost if you want.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawson: \u201cDoes he have overtake?\u201d<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos: \u201cNegative.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos: \u201cRussell overtook Gasly last lap. Russell four behind. Mid eight if you want, 14 laps to go.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos: \u201cTwelve laps to go. Twelve to the end.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawson: \u201cYeah. Can I sustain this amount of sliding to the end?\u201d<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos: \u201cYes, happy. We are happy because you are using more your fronts. Very good.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos: \u201cPlease watch the snap exit Turn 14. Only place.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawson: \u201cConfirmed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos: \u201cSuggestion: entry 10.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos: \u201cBottas in front will be blue flags.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos: \u201cStrat two. Let me know if engine braking is an issue.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawson: \u201cI\u2019ll let you know if [inaudible] to the end. For the end.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos: \u201cCopy. Six laps to go.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos: \u201cConsider mid nine, strat three. Entry 11 or shift three for stability, up to you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos: \u201cTwo laps to go.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos: \u201cLast lap.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawson crossed the line in seventh, with the 24-year-old admitting to the pit wall that Russell\u2019s recovery had given him cause for concern across the final 20 laps.<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos: \u201cAnd that is P7. Whoo. Everything as to plan. And Gasly P11 for info. Fail 84 fail and cool the brakes if you can.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos: \u201cYou can pick up some speed and lift off.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawson: \u201cCopy that. Yeah, good race, guys. Really, really good.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos: \u201cAnd we can have some throttle out of 13 and lift off 14. You a bit tired?\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawson: \u201cYeah, I\u2019m pretty f**ked, yeah!\u201d<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos: \u201c[Laughter] I am tired!\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawson: \u201cThat felt long. That felt really long. Very fast pace as well. Like, Nico was actually really quick at the end.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos: \u201cYeah. But I think you told him \u2018goodbye\u2019 at some point and you pulled away and then that was a good safety margin. Box, box.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawson: \u201cI mean, yeah. I panicked a bit. I thought Russell was gonna get to us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iliopoulos: \u201cAh, you managed to keep him behind. And Russell actually degged a bit at the end. He couldn\u2019t keep overtake [mode].\u201d<\/p>\n
