A teenage motorcyclist has been charged after allegedly pushing a man walking on New Plymouth’s Coastal Walkway onto nearby rocks, suffering serious injuries. <\/p>\n
Around 7am on September 29, the victim had been walking on the 12.7km-long path along the coast when he was assaulted.<\/p>\n
“The victim was pushed onto nearby rocks and suffered serious injuries,” Inspector Mark Miller said.<\/p>\n
“The offender was also aggressive to members of the public who witnessed the incident before speeding off.”<\/p>\n
Officers found the victim “bleeding and in pain” and he was taken to hospital.<\/p>\n
“The victim has been shaken from the incident but is expected to recover from their injuries,” Miller said. <\/p>\n
A 17-year-old boy was arrested after witnesses provided descriptions of his appearance.<\/p>\n
A distinctive motorcycle he was riding during the alleged assault was impounded for 10 days.<\/p>\n
The teenager was charged with wounding with intent to cause injury and had been going through a youth justice process.<\/p>\n
He was next due to appear in the New Plymouth Youth Court on Monday, November 23. <\/p>\n
The Coastal Walkway is a shared path for walkers and cyclists.
