Standard devices, such as those used in many doctors’ offices, will no longer be sold effective immediately, the Siemens subsidiary said Monday in Erlangen. Siemens Healthineers will in the future manufacture and sell only ultrasound systems used to monitor cardiovascular diseases and procedures. “Imaging is increasingly becoming part of therapy, not just diagnosis,” said Sourabh Pagaria, who heads Siemens Healthineers’ ultrasound business. It is part of the Precision Therapy division and generated just over €600m in revenue in 2025, or 9% of the division’s revenue.

The decision is based on the fact that Siemens Healthineers is not among the leading providers of conventional ultrasound devices, such as Philips, GE Healthcare, Fujifilm and Canon, which has a negative impact on margins. “Although we invested significantly in General Imaging, the market is extremely competitive, and we were unable to hold our own against large and emerging providers,” a spokeswoman said. Patient care was not at risk: “The market for general ultrasound systems is well served by several established providers,” Siemens Healthineers said. Service for existing Healthineers customers would be ensured.

Healthineers manufactures the ultrasound devices in the United States, South Korea and Slovakia. Several years ago, the company had already considered selling its ultrasound division, but ultimately abandoned the plans.

               (Report by Alexander Hübner.
