Not every concert film<\/a> gets the kind of rollout that \u201cCameron Winter at Carnegie Hall<\/a>\u201d is enjoying this fall \u2014 direct-to-streaming releases are far more common than 35mm roadshows<\/a> these days. But they don\u2019t all have a figure like Geese frontman Cameron Winter as their subject and a filmmaker like Paul Thomas Anderson<\/a> directing. Throw in the fact that \u201cCameron Winter at Carnegie Hall\u201d also boasts Benny Safdie as a producer (and camera operator!), and it\u2019s not hard to see why cinephiles and music geeks alike are dying to see it. But if you\u2019re somehow still on the fence, there\u2019s a new trailer to persuade you.<\/p>\n

The new trailer offers a brief tease of the instantly-iconic concert, in which Winter headlined Carnegie Hall for one night only at the age of 23. The setlist primarily pulled from his solo album \u201cHeavy Metal,\u201d showcasing a different side of the artist that doesn\u2019t always come through at his bigger Geese shows. <\/p>\n

\u201cCameron Winter at Carnegie Hall\u201d appropriately debuted at the 2026 New York Film Festival<\/a>, where many critics praised it for capturing a rising rock star at his best with an auteur\u2019s touch.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe matted-hair, lithe Winter can seem a bit uncomfortable in his own skin in the public eye, as he did onstage ahead of \u2018Cameron Winter at Carnegie\u2019 at its New York Film Festival world premiere at Alice Tully Hall,\u201d IndieWire\u2019s Ryan Lattanzio wrote in his review<\/a>. \u201cBut on the piano, laser-beamed into his songcraft, he\u2019s quietly electrified, seemingly at peace as his tenorous vocal glissando and nimble fingerwork on the piano produce shiveringly tender folk ballads that echo Harry Nilsson and Van Morrison. (The usual comparisons to Tom Waits and Rufus Wainright are right, too, but Winter is his own strange thing.) If you weren\u2019t previously sold on the wily Winter antic rock chaos of Geese \u2014 rapidly becoming one of the most popular contemporary art rock bands of these times \u2014 you\u2019re about to. Paul Thomas Anderson has created a rhapsodic shrine to the man that is nonetheless ballad-sized in its emotional scale.\u201d<\/p>\n

The review continued, \u201cThe result is hypnotic, a concert film up there with \u2018Stop Making Sense\u2019 but for introverts. Songs like the popular single \u2018$0\u2019 acquire an even more wrenchingly somber quality as a lovelorn protagonist rues being exploited by a relationship (\u2018You\u2019re making me feel like a dollar in your hand \/ You\u2019re making me feel like I\u2019m a zero dollar man\u2019). Stripped of production, his indie hit \u2018Love Takes Miles\u2019 plays even better. While many of the songs sort of hover in the same key and bleed into one another, that makes for an all the more transfixing experience. The lack of an interstitial anything save for a sweet prologue and moving coda make for an experience also that\u2019s immersive, deep, and the kind whose truth you can feel somewhere in your body even if you can\u2019t quite articulate it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Audiences can catch \u201cCameron Winter at Carnegie Hall\u201d via a roadshow of 35mm screenings across the country starting on November 20.
