Image: Supplied<\/p>\n<p>Lowndes is set to depart Triple Eight following the Great Race, having opted to remain with General Motors while the squad defects to Ford for 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The driver and Supercheap Auto-backed wildcard effort will switch to <a href=\"https:\/\/speedcafe.com\/supercars-news-2025-team-18-confirmed-general-motors-motorsport-homologation-ht-details\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">new GM homologation squad Team 18 under a two-year deal.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Triple Eight and Supercheap have tweaked the #888 Camaro\u2019s livery in what the team says is a throwback to its 2012 Team Vodafone look.<\/p>\n<p>The choice is convenient given the Triple Eight cars ran in predominantly red that year, albeit in a brighter dayglo hue.<\/p>\n<p>It was a vintage season for Jamie Whincup as he won the championship and Bathurst 1000, sharing the latter with co-driver Paul Dumbrell.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1005586\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/2012-Clipsal-500-Craig-Lowndes-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1286\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Lowndes at the 2012 Adelaide 500. Image: Glenis Lindley<\/p>\n<p>Lowndes finished second in the series that year and third at Bathurst, where his car ran an alternate livery paying homage to Peter Brock.<\/p>\n<p>Whincup and Lowndes\u2019 co-driver Zach Bates unveiled the new livery at Supercheap Auto Bathurst as the countdown continues to the Great Race.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTwenty years with one team isn\u2019t something that happens often in sport and we\u2019ve been fortunate enough to ride the highs and lows with Craig over that time in what\u2019ll end up being one of the most memorable legacies in motorsport,\u201d said Whincup.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe car looks great as a throwback to one of the team\u2019s and Craig\u2019s iconic cars. Craig and Zach have come through QR and The Bend together ready to race. Image: Supplied<\/p>\n<p>Bates, 21, said the livery adds to the surreal nature of embarking on his first Great Race with the legendary Lowndes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI remember growing up watching him race around the Mountain and now we\u2019re here in a car together,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s our car but I love the touches taking it back to one of Craig\u2019s old cars. I remember him racing around in that [2012] car.
