Of the 43 hospital trips under review, 24 happened between April and May.

Two former Kalamazoo Behavioral Health Hospital employees told the News Channel 3 I-Team they had concerns about conditions at the facility.

News Channel 3 is not identifying the former employees because they said they were worried their comments could affect future opportunities.

“I put it to you this way. I have a family member who suffers from mental illness. If he had to go into that facility for treatment, I would not be able to sleep at night,” one former employee said.

According to another former employee, the state documents did not capture the full extent of the concerns.

“The documents said what they said, and my first thought was this doesn’t even scratch the surface,” they said.

The same former employee saw “huge gaps in patient safety and employee safety,” and said leadership dismissed concerns.

“I saw leadership constantly dropping the ball or dismissing our concerns and telling us that they would take care of it when nothing was actually being done,” they said.

The state’s letter describes one patient who was supposed to be checked every five minutes because they were considered a fall risk.

That patient was left alone for about an hour, fell, was injured and was taken to a hospital, the letter detailed.

Public records also show a separate complaint filed by a patient’s son in September.

According to state regulators, the patient fractured his hip and femur and hit his head after a fall at 3 a.m. Sept. 2.

Officials with LARA said the hospital’s night shift did not document the incident, and staff notes detail the patient was up and walking throughout the morning.

Regulators who reviewed security video say they never saw the patient leave his room. Another worker discovered the severity of the injuries about eight hours after the fall.

“I can’t think of a reason to keep it open unless it were to be sold to someone else,” a former employee said.

The state directed Kalamazoo Behavioral Health to submit a plan to correct the problems, but rejected that plan.

According to LARA, the department has identified non-compliance with federal Conditions of Participation at the hospital, adding the facility remains under active investigation.

They issued the following statement:

LARA has also issued a Notice of Intent (NOI) to revoke the hospital’s state license based on continued noncompliance with state licensure regulations. The NOI was issued on September 9, 2026, and an administrative hearing is scheduled for October 14, 2026. The hospital may continue to operate while the matter proceeds through the administrative hearing process and until a final decision is issued regarding the department’s action to revoke the license.

LARA later informed News Channel 3 that Wednesday’s hearing has been pushed back to Dec. 8.

The hospital is owned by Neuropsychiatric Hospitals, according to the report.

News Channel 3 repeatedly reached out for comment from the company and hospital CEO Tim Radabaugh before our earlier story aired Monday, including by email, phone and voicemail, but did not receive a response.

We’ve also reached out again to ask about the state investigation, whether steps had been taken to fix the problems and whether patients should feel safe at the facility, but still have not received a response.

TEXAS TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Former employees of a Kalamazoo County mental hospital are reacting to the news that…

[35
134,554,555,111,139,69
post-631747","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-mental-health","tag-health","tag-mental-health","tag-mentalhealth","tag-new-zealand","tag-newzealand","tag-nz
["GET
