The woman described the first part of the house as \u201ccompletely gone\u201d.<\/p>\n
She said three people were inside the house at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lady came out first and I called \u2018fire\u2019 and was screaming my lungs out at them for help.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople quickly moved cars out the way and then the firefighters turned up within minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said the home\u2019s owner was at church and was notified of the blaze over the phone.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe neighbourhood all turned up and helped and checked on things, so that was nice,\u201d the woman said. <\/p>\n
\u201cThey [owners] thanked us for getting help.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think things could have been a lot worse if we didn\u2019t notice the smoke.\u201d<\/p>\n
A Fire and Emergency shift manager told the Herald three trucks, one specialist crew and a support vehicle were sent from M\u0101ngere, Onehunga, \u014ct\u0101huhu and \u014ctara. <\/p>\n
The blaze at the single-level dwelling has since been extinguished.<\/p>\n
Accompanying a photo circulating online of the damaged property, one person described the house as \u201ccompletely destroyed\u201d, while firefighters remained on the scene at 6pm.<\/p>\n
Fire and Emergency said there were no reports of any people trapped, injuries or threat to neighbouring properties.<\/p>\n
Police confirmed they assisted with traffic management.<\/p>\n
