The night before Meghan Markle married Prince Harry, she arrived at her hotel<\/a> in a navy Roland Mouret dress. The soon-to-be Duchess of Sussex and the designer had a long history; the two had been friends since Meghan\u2019s Suits days.<\/p>\n

Mouret and Meghan reported met in a hotel elevator in Istanbul, when Mouret struck up a conversation. \u201cThis man in a bathrobe said, \u2018I\u2019d love to dress you,\u2019\u201d Meghan said<\/a>. \u201cI thought \u2018whaaat?\u2019 Then he told me who he was and we\u2019ve been friends ever since.\u201d That friendship reportedly soured during her royal days, according to an excerpt<\/a> from Mouret\u2019s forthcoming memoir, I Am Roland Mouret: The Butcher\u2019s Boy Who Dressed the World.<\/a> According to Mouret, a member of his staff reached out to the then-Duchess of Cambridge\u2019s office instead of Meghan\u2019s over the return of a dress.<\/p>\n

\u201cMeghan was furious and called me. \u2018You don\u2019t realise what you\u2019ve done! You\u2019ve embarrassed me,\u2019\u201d he writes. Meghan then reportedly told him, \u201cYou know now I can never wear your clothes again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mouret says, \u201cMeghan\u2019s decision not to wear my clothes was hers, not the palace\u2019s, not anybody else\u2019s. I don\u2019t think anyone else cared. I didn\u2019t see the logic of that but I didn\u2019t question it.\u201d Despite Mouret\u2019s claim, Meghan has worn Mouret designs in recent years, including in a February 2026 promotional image for As Ever.<\/p>\n

Meghan wore numerous Mouret designs in her time as a working royal, including a gown she wore to the premiere of a Cirque du Soleil show<\/a>, a sleek gray dress<\/a> during a royal visit to Dublin, and a white skirt to a private visit to the National Theatre<\/a>. The Princess of Wales also frequently wears his clothing, including most recently to the Wimbledon women\u2019s finals<\/a> and to Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling\u2019s wedding<\/a>.<\/p>\n
