{"id":634238,"date":"2026-10-18T10:18:14","date_gmt":"2026-10-18T10:18:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/634238\/"},"modified":"2026-10-18T10:18:14","modified_gmt":"2026-10-18T10:18:14","slug":"bathurst-peter-brock-hdt-director-holden-split-car-appears-kenny-habul-hdt-special-vehicles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/634238\/","title":{"rendered":"Bathurst: Peter Brock HDT Director Holden split car appears, Kenny Habul, HDT Special Vehicles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ONE of the most infamous cars in Australian automotive history appeared at last weekend\u2019s Repco Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While a range of ex-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-176-Peter-Brock\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Peter Brock<\/a> race cars from the 1970s to 2000s captured most of the attention in \u2018Peter\u2019s Pit Lane\u2019 out the front of the National Motor Racing Museum, some of his road car creations sat just a matter of metres away.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Near the statue of Brock holding aloft the old James Hardie 1000 winner\u2019s trophy alongside his race-winning \u2018Big Banger\u2019 Commodore, sat a pair of road cars.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One was a prototype used for a range of testing of components and body panels for HDT Commodores; the other though was far more distinctive; the \u2018Blue Ice\u2019 HDT Director.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We checked with new HDT owner Kenny Habul at Bathurst and he confirmed the car on display over the weekend is the one and same car famously launched by Brock at Tudor Court in Kooyong, Melbourne on February 20, 1987.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Holden had issued a statement the day prior to the launch which in part said, \u201cwith regret business relations with Peter Brock and HDT would have to be concluded\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/News_Brock87DirectorAUTOPIX-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-268175\"  \/>Brock at the unveiling of the infamous car in 1987. Photo: an1images.com \/ AUTOPIX.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The HDT Director, complete with optional Energy Polarizer, proved to be the final straw before GM-Holden made the decision to cut ties with him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is a very proud moment for me, for there\u2019s the soul of Brock in this motor car,\u201d Brock said on the night during the launch.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s the pinnacle. A car l\u2019m determined is going to succeed.
