For\u00a0Hellraiser\u00a0fans, Saber Interactive\u2019s video game from earlier this month is the franchise\u2019s first bit of life in years. Amid a solid reception, creator Clive Barker doesn\u2019t plan on letting the Cenobite madness stop there.<\/p>\n
As he told horror outlet Dread Central<\/a>, the game\u2019s \u201ca wake-up call. It says to get your ideas warmed over so you can go back into existing worlds in a brand new way.\u201d And as far as that goes, Barker\u2019s got \u201cmany\u201d he\u2019d like to see happen, which is why he\u2019s \u201cplanning to keep my fingers in that pie. [\u2026] I\u2019d love to have another go and explore.\u201d<\/p>\n The last\u00a0Hellraiser\u00a0movie was Hulu\u2019s 2022 reboot<\/a>, and there\u2019s been no movement on that TV show<\/a> announced for HBO. Both of those were announced in 2019,\u00a0and it Barker got the rights back<\/a> the following year. (He signed story and character rights away before the original 1987 movie even came out.) He was candid about the films\u2019 decline, which he blamed less on the creative talent and more on the Hollywood system milking the franchise.<\/p>\n \u201cMany of [those] movies made by the Weistein brothers were created simply to hold onto the rights. Over time they spent less and less on them. A lot of amazing creative people got worked over as a consequence,\u201d Barker said. \u201cThe compromises you have to make and the battles you have to have are totally exhausting, unnecessary, and not something I will entertain ever again.\u201d<\/p>\n Notably, Barker said he\u2019s got a good amount of\u00a0Hellraiser\u00a0ideas for film\u00a0and\u00a0\u201cother media.\u201d Comics have come out this year and next, so fans won\u2019t be completely left wanting until such a time they hear news of another movie or even the TV show.<\/p>\n Want more io9 news?
