\nNew Zealand has officially launched its first offshore renewable energy
\nfeasibility permit application round.
\n
\n

\nThe round has the potential to shape New Zealand’s offshore wind market
\nand will focus on the Offshore Taranaki and Offshore Waikato\/South Auckland
\ndesignated areas.
\n

\nThe application process outlines key terms, requirements, limitations and
\nmandatory conditions for prospective developers.
\n
\n

\nThe round opens on October 19, with all applications required to be submitted
\nby 5 p.m. NZST on April 19, 2027.
\n
\n

\nThe round includes mandatory engagement requirements for relevant iwi and
\nhap\u016b .
\nPermit holders must submit annual engagement reports, participate in review
\nmeetings if requested, and provide clear information on planned activities
\nwhile ensuring iwi and hap\u016b \u00a0have opportunities to share their views.
\n
\n

\nIn addition, applicants must comply with the Offshore Renewable Energy
\nAct 2026 and the Offshore Renewable Energy Regulations 2026.
