Jordan Roth has seven Tony Awards, an enviable couture collection, and, most recently, an acting credit on Ryan Murphy\u2019s new series The Shards. This week, the Broadway producer is adding his own Parisian art installation to the list.<\/p>\n

In partnership with Design Miami and Salon 94 Design, Roth is taking over the H\u00f4tel de Guise, filling the 18th century h\u00f4tel particulier with a collection of pieces he created. In this new installation, called \u201cTo Think of the Tranquil Life of Things,\u201d Roth transposes his West Village apartment, featured in ELLE Decor in 2016<\/a>, into this elaborate, Parisian space. Inside an exhibition designed by ELLE Decor A-List <\/a>firm Charlap Hyman & Herrero, visitors will find 16 images of Roth, each printed on a swath of fabric and draped over an individual piece of furniture.<\/p>\n

Roth recreated the exact layout of his former New York home within the Parisian mansion.<\/p>\n

Roth came up with the idea when he and his husband, Richie Jackson, were moving out of the New York apartment where Roth had spent the past 15 years and where, Roth says, \u201cso much life happened.\u201d He tells ELLE Decor, \u201cI wanted to record this life. It\u2019s about the way in which the objects we live with carry stories.\u201d<\/p>\n

When it came time to leave, Roth thought of a novel way to preserve those memories. \u201cThe movers were coming to take the furniture away,\u201d when he had an idea: to shoot himself in 16 different looks he had worn while living in the home, he says. The images were photographed all with Roth sitting on various pieces of furniture, printed onto fabric, and draped over the Parisian furnishings. He also recreated the rooms in the exact layout of the New York home, but now in this Paris mansion. The inspiration stemmed from slipcovers but, he says, instead of concealing, \u201cwe are revealing something.\u201d<\/p>\n

Roth covered existing furniture with fabric, printed with images of himself sitting on the pieces from his former apartment.<\/p>\n

The exhibit\u2019s big moment comes in the form of the \u201cchintz room,\u201d a space where the furniture is covered in a fabric printed with dahlias, the flowers Roth grows and loves. While the installation is personal, Roth hopes his visitors also take with them an opportunity for self-reflection.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would be really happy if somebody came to experience this work and then went home and sat on their own couch,\u201d he says, \u201cand started to see their own history and aesthetic evolution and the narrative it holds.\u201d<\/p>\n
