CHARLESTON \u2014 If you\u2019re craving authentic New York cuisine, a local festival is bringing it to you.<\/p>\n
The Lowcountry Nosh, a Jewish food and heritage festival, will sell prepackaged \u2014 but never frozen \u2014 pastrami and corned beef from Carnegie Deli, a famous deli known for its larger-than-life sandwiches, at its to-go tent.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s the 12th year Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim<\/a> has hosted the festival. The synagogue is the second oldest<\/a> in the country.<\/p>\n Carnegie Deli opened near Carnegie Hall in New York City in 1937. Known for overstuffed sandwiches, corned beef and pastrami, co-owners Leo Steiner and Milton Parker \u201cput the quintessential Jewish deli into the cultural zeitgeist,\u201d according to the deli\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n Celebrities like Robin Williams, Stevie Wonder, Alec Baldwin and Conan O\u2019Brien all became regulars at the deli, which shut its doors in 2016 and reopened in September<\/a> this year.<\/p>\n This is the first year Nosh has sold meat from Carnegie Deli, according to Jeff Weinman, the 2026 Lowcountry Nosh chair.<\/p>\n Carnegie Deli is only providing prepackaged meats for the festival, which are available for preorder. The meat used in sandwiches sold at the festival will be sourced from Saval Deli based in Baltimore, Weinman said.<\/p>\n In addition to sandwiches, the festival also sells stuffed cabbage, matzo ball soup and pastries like black-and-white cookies, hamantaschen and rugelach from Brooklyn, Weinman said.<\/p>\n The festival will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 8 outside the synagogue on Hasell Street. Preorders for the Nosh<\/a> end Oct. 23, and can be picked up at Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim or delivered.
