Mafileo joins Newcastle recruit Pouri Rakete-Stones in leaving the Canes’ front-row stocks.

For the Chiefs, Mafileo’s arrival fortifies a front row unit that has lost Reuben O’Neill to the Western Force and Sione Ahio to La Rochelle.

Mafileo, one of New Zealand’s most respected scrummagers, said he is looking forward to seeing what he can achieve in Chiefs colours.

“It’s a big honour and a privilege to come back for the Chiefs. For me it’s a big opportunity to see what I can do for the next few years. I’m excited to get amongst it, and try and get to know the new boys and the old boys that are still there.”

Gallagher Chiefs Head Coach Jono Gibbes was thrilled to bring Mafileo back to FMG Stadium.

“There’s a lot of strong talent in Chiefs Country, and it’s great to see guys wanting to come back and play. Tevita brings an incredible knowledge of the game, strong work ethic and years of experience across the Super, NPC and All Blacks environments. It’s nice to have the chance to bring him back.”

Published: 14 hours ago | 19 October 2026 23:43 EDT mens super-rugby-pacific Tevita Mafileo of the All Blacks…

[9
111,139,69,213
post-636545","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-sports","tag-new-zealand","tag-newzealand","tag-nz","tag-sports
["GET
