{"id":63690,"date":"2025-10-07T15:13:09","date_gmt":"2025-10-07T15:13:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/63690\/"},"modified":"2025-10-07T15:13:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-07T15:13:09","slug":"hundreds-of-people-to-re-sit-driving-test-after-auckland-vtnz-officers-allegedly-took-cash-bribes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/63690\/","title":{"rendered":"Hundreds of people to re-sit driving test after Auckland VTNZ officers allegedly took cash bribes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/4JZWLWQ_VTNZ_Highbrook_png\" width=\"1050\" height=\"678\" alt=\"The VTNZ Highbrook branch in Auckland.\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"photo-captioned__information\">\nThe VTNZ Highbrook branch in Auckland.<br \/>\nPhoto: Google Maps\n<\/p>\n<p>More than 300 people will have to re-sit their driving tests after Vehicle Testing New Zealand (VTNZ) officers allegedly took money in return for passing applications.<\/p>\n<p>The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) said an investigation has found &#8220;serious misconduct&#8221; involving five driver testing officers at the the VTNZ Highbrook branch in Auckland.<\/p>\n<p>The officers had allegedly been accepting payments to pass people taking practical drivers tests since 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The five officers have been dismissed and their testing officer endorsements have been suspended while NZTA investigates these allegations.<\/p>\n<p>VTNZ has also stopped offering driver licence testing at the Highbrook branch while investigations occur.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, 322 people are required to re-sit their driving tests.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;NZTA is contacting the people who were tested by these DTOs and received a driver licence during the period where fraud was suspected and requiring them to pass an on-road driving test, at no cost to them, to confirm that they have the necessary skills to continue to hold a licence,&#8221; a NZTA spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>Police confirmed to RNZ they are investigating the allegations.<\/p>\n<p>VNTZ is New Zealand&#8217;s largest provider of driving tests, carrying out over 200,000 practical driving tests each year.<\/p>\n<p>The company said it took &#8220;decisive and serious action&#8221; following the allegations of dishonesty, conducting a thorough investigation and working with NZTA on appropriate steps.<\/p>\n<p>Country manager Greg O&#8217;Connor said public safety was VTNZ&#8217;s highest priority.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;VTNZ places the highest importance on the integrity of licence testing and the safety of everyone who travels on our roads.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have zero tolerance for dishonesty, and will leave no stone unturned to uncover and eliminate any improper behaviour.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>VTNZ said it reviewed its systems and evaluated any extra security measures as a precaution<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I can promise we will fully support any action taken by NZTA or NZ Police,&#8221; O&#8217;Connor said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/radionz.us6.list-manage.com\/subscribe?u=211a938dcf3e634ba2427dde9&amp;id=b3d362e693\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sign up for Ng\u0101 Pitopito K\u014drero<\/a>, a daily newsletter curated by our editors and delivered straight to your inbox every weekday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The VTNZ Highbrook branch in Auckland.
