\n\tKurosawa Kiyoshi<\/a> and \u201cJu-on\u201d director Shimizu Takashi<\/a> are among the seven filmmakers behind \u201cNight Tales Club<\/a>,\u201d a six-part Japanese supernatural anthology series set to premiere on Disney+<\/a> and Hulu in January 2027.<\/p>\n

\n\tYamada Takayuki leads the series as Hojo, a high-flying businessman fixated on the unexplained who acts as its storyteller. Each episode adapts a different tale from author Sawamura Ichi\u2019s collection of short horror stories. Sawamura also adapted the material for the screen.<\/p>\n

\n\tHojo is convinced that ghosts, curses and other paranormal events are \u201cbugs\u201d \u2013 glitches that point to a hidden conspiracy. To get to the bottom of it, he offers JPY20 million ($126,000) in gold to anyone willing to come to his gathering, the Night Tales Club, and present a firsthand account of the supernatural along with proof. Six such accounts make up the series as Hojo chases the truth behind them.<\/p>\n

\n\tKurosawa, whose credits include \u201cCure\u201d and \u201cWife of a Spy,\u201d and Shimizu, known for \u201cJu-on\u201d and \u201cThe Inugami Family,\u201d each take one episode. So do Katayama Shinzo (\u201cGannibal,\u201d \u201cThe Human Vapor\u201d), Sode Yukiko (\u201cAristocrats,\u201d \u201cAll the Lovers in the Night\u201d), Sakashita Yuichiro (\u201cI Can\u2019t Cry With Your Face,\u201d \u201cBlonde\u201d) and Nakamura Yosuke (\u201cHiguma!!,\u201d \u201cPoison Girl\u201d). Nakajima Kenji (\u201cThe Naked Director,\u201d \u201cTokyo Swindlers\u201d) directs the Hojo sequences.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAs the original author of these stories, I feel an enormous sense of surprise and joy that they will soon be available on screen to scare audiences around the world.\u201d Sawamura said.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe show joins a growing lineup of Japanese series on the streamer. Disney+ already carries \u201cGannibal,\u201d in which a police officer stumbles on something sinister in a remote village, and \u201cLand of Tanabata,\u201d about a college student with an apparently pointless power who looks into a murder.
