RNZ<\/a><\/p>\nThe serving officer – who has been granted interim name suppression – faces one charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and one of wounding with intent to injure.<\/p>\n
The officer pleaded not guilty and elected a trial by jury when he appeared in the Whang\u0101rei District Court on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
He was granted bail and is due back in court in January.<\/p>\n
The head of Northland police Superintendent Matt Srhoj confirmed a serving member had been charged over an incident that allegedly occurred while on duty in the Far North in June.<\/p>\n
Police had investigated and charged the officer concerned.<\/p>\n
Srhoj said the officer had been stood down from duty while the matter was before the court.<\/p>\n
The Independent Police Conduct Authority had also been notified.<\/p>\n
Police were unable to make any further comments, Srhoj said.<\/p>\n
RNZ can not publish details of where the officer was based or his specific role.<\/p>\n
