{"id":637631,"date":"2026-10-22T04:08:14","date_gmt":"2026-10-22T04:08:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/637631\/"},"modified":"2026-10-22T04:08:14","modified_gmt":"2026-10-22T04:08:14","slug":"ea-cuts-around-400-jobs-shuts-down-bioware","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/637631\/","title":{"rendered":"EA Cuts Around 400 Jobs, Shuts Down BioWare"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAfter <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/09\/shares-video-game-firm-electronic-arts-rose-go-private-talks-50-billion-1236557513\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">going private<\/a> in August, <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/electronic-arts\/\" id=\"auto-tag_electronic-arts\" data-tag=\"electronic-arts\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Electronic Arts<\/a> (EA) is cutting about 3% of its staff and shutting down video game developer <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/bioware\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bioware\" data-tag=\"bioware\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BioWare<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tOn Wednesday, EA reportedly notified employees in an email that the company would be laying off around 400 people, including about 50 at BioWare, as the company focuses on more lucrative projects, according to Bloomberg.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tClosing down BioWare\u2019s Edmonton, Canada studio, the announcement also included the cancellation of a Mass Effect game in early development. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cFor more than 30 years, BioWare has been more than a studio. It has been a home for storytellers, developers, and the players who brought our worlds to life,\u201d said a spokesperson for the developer in a statement. \u201cBaldur\u2019s Gate. Neverwinter Nights. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Dragon Age. Mass Effect. Anthem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe statement continued, \u201cNow, after more than three decades of shared adventures, BioWare is closing and early development on the next Mass Effect project is ending. There is nothing easy about writing those words. Our focus right now is on our incredibly talented team who put their hearts into these games, and supporting one another through this transition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cWhat generations of BioWare built together is something to celebrate and remember. These games became so much more because you played them, debated your choices, fell in love with the characters, and made these worlds your own.
