Airport named best in NZ"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dunedin Airport is flying high after being named the best airport of its size at a national\u00a0award ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>Dunedin and Queenstown Airports were named medium and large airports of the year\u00a0respectively at the 2025 NZ Airports Awards, hosted by the NZ Airports Association, in\u00a0Blenheim yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>A \u2018\u2018medium\u2019\u2019 airport was considered as recording between 200,000 and 2 million passengers\u00a0per year, while a \u2018\u2018large\u2019\u2019 had more than 2 million.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the association said Dunedin Airport received the award \u2018\u2018for its strong\u00a0leadership, regional collaboration, and operational delivery.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2018The airport played a pivotal role in forming the Southern Airports Alliance, uniting airports\u00a0and councils across the lower South Island to create the One Trip to See It All tourism initiative.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2018Judges called it a pioneering model of regional cooperation with long-term benefits for\u00a0connectivity and economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2018Alongside this, Dunedin completed its Taxiway Rehabilitation Project and celebrated the\u00a0return of international services with Jetstar, reinforcing its position as a resilient and forward-looking gateway for the region.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Dunedin Airport chief executive Daniel Do Bono said he was delighted to accept the award\u00a0on behalf of his team.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2018This is fantastic acknowledgment for our team marking a milestone year that included the\u00a0return of international services, significant infrastructure\u00a0investment, and a strengthened commitment to sustainability and community.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2018Working with our Southern Way partners and stakeholders has produced these amazing\u00a0results and we can all be very proud for the region.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Dunedin Airport was also recognised with a Commerical Projects of the Year award for the\u00a0One Trip to See it All initiative, on behalf of the Southern Airport Alliance, which took place in\u00a0July and August last year.<\/p>\n<p>Dunedin Airport business development general manager Megan Crawford accepted the\u00a0award with colleagues from Invercargill and Queenstown Airports.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2018It is incredible to have this recognition for the group who have come together and created\u00a0an innovative and amazing campaign that has proved so popular with visitors,\u2019\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n<p>The association said Queenstown Airport was named large airport of the year \u2018\u2018in recognition\u00a0of its exceptional performance across safety, commercial, and community outcomes\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>A major highlight was the successful delivery of Australasia\u2019s first Engineered Materials\u00a0Arresting System (EMAS), which \u2018\u2018set a new benchmark for runway safety and resilience\u2019\u2019, it\u00a0said.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2018The judges also praised Queenstown\u2019s wider operational excellence, from innovative\u00a0commercial initiatives such as the redevelopment of Skippers Caf\u00e9, to its strong commitment\u00a0to community engagement.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2018Together, these achievements demonstrate a team that consistently delivers world-class\u00a0results in one of New Zealand\u2019s most complex operating environments.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>North Shore Airport was named small
