Denver Art Museum is set to host the most comprehensive collection of Pablo Picasso’s work ever assembled in Colorado. And in a programming coup for the museum, it will be the only U.S. venue to host the major exhibition.

“Picasso: Magician” is an overview of 70 years of Picasso’s “exploration of the human figure,” according to the museum. The newly designed exhibition of Picasso’s work spans painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking and ceramics, marking Denver‘s first comprehensive exhibition of the artist who died in 1973 at the age of 91.

The exhibit is organized in collaboration with the Musée National Picasso–Paris and Manifesto Expo, Denver Art Museum officials said. It will feature 150 works in total, with 130 by Picasso and 20 by other artists. It covers his wide-ranging styles and artistic evolution, from Cubism to surrealism, with an emphasis on his fascination with the human body.

“We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Musée National Picasso–Paris to create this extraordinary exhibition and bring it exclusively to our Denver audience,” said Christoph Heinrich, Frederick and Jan Mayer Director of the Denver Art Museum. “Pablo Picasso was just like a magician, with unlimited thinking and the ability to transform reality into new creative forms full of humanity, mystery and emotion.”

Picasso fans and art lovers will have to be patient, however, as the exhibit won’t open for another year. It’s scheduled to run Oct. 31, 2027-Feb. 27, 2028, giving the museum plenty of time to welcome visitors long after the initial crush of attendance.

Tickets for the exhibition will go on sale later. Check for updates at denverartmuseum.org.
