KUALA LUMPUR: Hong Leong Bank Bhd<\/a><\/a> (HLB) has added Alipay+ to its cross-border payment network through Payments Network Malaysia (PayNet), allowing customers to make overseas QR payments using the HLB Connect app.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the bank said the integration builds on PayNet’s existing cross-border QR payment linkages with Singapore’s NETS, Thailand’s PromptPay, Indonesia’s QRIS and Cambodia’s Bakong.<\/p>\n

Alipay+ payments are processed instantly, with funds deducted directly from customers’ ringgit bank accounts.<\/p>\n

The addition complements HLB’s existing connectivity with UnionPay International and Weixin Pay, which provides access to more than 120 million QR-enabled merchants across China, Hong Kong, Macau and Thailand.<\/p>\n

HLB said customers can make cross-border QR payments through HLB Connect without downloading additional payment applications or topping up separate e-wallets.<\/p>\n

Depending on the participating merchant and payment network, customers can either scan a merchant’s QR code or present their HLB QR Pay code for scanning.<\/p>\n

The bank also offers other overseas payment options, including linking eligible HLB cards to Weixin Pay and using Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay.<\/p>\n

HLB group managing director and chief executive officer Kevin Lam said the integration would provide customers with more payment options when travelling overseas.<\/p>\n

“Bringing these networks together gives them more places to pay through HLB Connect, alongside the cards and other payment options they already use,” he said.<\/p>\n
