The Cr\u00e9ateurs Design Association & Awards<\/a> has named Pritzker Prize-winning French studio Lacaton & Vassal Architectes<\/a> the recipient of the Le Prix Charlotte Perriand<\/a> 2027.<\/p>\n

Lacaton & Vassal Architectes<\/a>, which is led by architects Anne Lacaton and Jean-Philippe Vassal and known for its social housing designs, was recognised for contributing to contemporary architecture by transforming and improving existing buildings.<\/p>\n

The Cr\u00e9ateurs Design Associates<\/a> (CDA) said the studio\u2019s work improves \u201cliving conditions while preserving resources and architectural heritage\u201d.<\/p>\n

The duo said it was \u201cvery happy\u201d to receive the award.<\/p>\n

\u201cCharlotte Perriand\u2019s tireless pursuit of comfort, well-being, and the pleasure of the inhabitant and of everyday life, her modernity, and her political commitment to exposing poor housing conditions and to transmission and education remain profoundly relevant today and are a source of inspiration,\u201d Anne Lacaton and Jean-Philippe Vassal said.<\/p>\n

The architects founded their studio in 1989 and have since worked on high-profile projects such as the transformation of the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, the Nantes School of Architecture and the Cit\u00e9 du Grand Parc housing transformation in Bordeaux.<\/p>\n

The latter, which was completed with Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Druot and Christophe Hutin, won the European Union\u2019s Mies van der Rohe Award in 2019.<\/a><\/p>\n

Lacaton & Vassal Architectes\u2019 other social housing projects include the renovation of the 1960s Tour Bois-le-Pr\u00eatre tower block in Paris<\/a>, also in collaboration with Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Druot, which was completed in 2011.<\/p>\n

It also converted and extended a former shipbuilding workshop to create the FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais contemporary art gallery in Dunkirk.<\/p>\n

The Le Prix Charlotte Perriand was established in collaboration with the family of the late architect and recognises practitioners whose contributions have advanced architecture and design.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn awarding Le Prix Charlotte Perriand to Lacaton & Vassal, the CDA members recognise the care and imagination with which they approach the places people call home. Their work shows how much can be gained by understanding what is already there,\u201d Cr\u00e9ateurs Design Association co-founder Meredith Xavier said.<\/p>\n

The award will be given to Lacaton & Vassal Architectes in a ceremony on 16 January 2027, at the Shangri-La Paris. Architect Kengo Kuma will also be honoured at the event as the winner of the Andr\u00e9e Putman Lifetime Achievement Award 2027.<\/p>\n

Lacaton & Vassal Architectes has previously won the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2021<\/a>, as well as the 2023 Soane Medal for architecture<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Last year, Lacaton won the 2025 Jane Drew Prize for women in architecture<\/a>.<\/p>\n
