What exactly is that strategy, you ask? Good question: Capcom announced it in a 2023 integrated report<\/a>, where it defined the plan as a way to \u201cutilize our popular proprietary content for multiple game platforms\u201d by \u201cactively turning it into movies, theater productions, and other non-game media.\u201d Basically, it means that it’s pushing the visibility of its games by ramping up marketing, merchandise, crossovers, and, of course, movies.<\/p>\n In its latest investor relations report<\/a>, Capcom reaffirmed its intention to continue pursuing this strategy in direct relation to the Street Fighter movie\u2019s opening-week financials.<\/p>\n \u201cIn conjunction with the film\u2019s release, Capcom worked to appeal to a broad audience with initiatives that included a worldwide promotional tour, film premiere events in Japan and the U.S., as well as collaborations with game titles, resulting in the film garnering popularity across the globe,\u201d the report reads.<\/p>\n \u201cCapcom is firmly committed to advancing the multifaceted use of its extensive portfolio of game content, guided by its Single Content Multiple Usage strategy, in order to achieve sustainable growth and enhance corporate value.\u201d<\/p>\n This news comes as a mild surprise, given the apparent financial loss on Legendary\u2019s side of things now that two weeks have passed. However, there\u2019s a big push from the talent involved to make another movie, as told to us in several cast interviews<\/a>. In fact, Olivier Richters \u2014 the actor who portrayed Zangief \u2014 revealed that the entire cast signed on for three films<\/a>, which explains why the movie left on such a big cliffhanger<\/a> and why we saw so little of some of our favorite fighters.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen they asked me to play Zangief, it was all very clear. There was one goal: Show a [glimpse] of Zangief and his power, so we all want more,” he wrote in a YouTube comment. “All actors, including me, signed for three movies. \u2018If a sequel is made, Zangief will shine,\u2019 was the promise. Apart from that, you can’t expect, from a two-hour movie with so many characters, for everyone to shine in the first part.\u201d<\/p>\n The overall sentiment from fans and movie-goers was rather positive toward the comedic, fist-flinging flick, though critics were less receptive to it overall.
