The lawsuit alleges Apple used the <a href=\"https:\/\/the-decoder.com\/new-lawsuit-accuses-bloomberg-microsoft-and-meta-of-training-ai-with-pirated-books\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Books3 dataset<\/a>, a collection of more than 196,000 pirated books that includes works by both authors. The complaint also accuses Apple of using its <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT204683\">Applebot<\/a> web crawler to copy website content and pull material from so-called shadow libraries.<\/p>\n<p>The plaintiffs are seeking damages and a court order barring Apple from using their works. This case follows a <a href=\"https:\/\/the-decoder.com\/napster-style-piracy-allegations-put-anthropic-at-risk-of-a-billion-dollar-class-action-lawsuit\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">recent lawsuit against Anthropic<\/a>, which <a href=\"https:\/\/the-decoder.com\/anthropic-settles-landmark-ai-copyright-lawsuit-for-at-least-1-5-billion\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ended in a settlement<\/a> after similar copyright claims.<\/p>\n<p>Support our independent, free-access reporting.
