Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly preparing to spend their first Christmas in Britain in eight years, marking a surprising U-turn after previously ruling out staying in the UK for the festive season.<\/p>\n

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who returned to Harry’s home country in August after six years living in the United States, are understood to be “making early plans” to celebrate Christmas in the Cotswolds, according to Hello.<\/a><\/p>\n

The 42-year-old Prince and his 45-year-old wife are also expected to be joined by Meghan’s 70-year-old mother, Doria Ragland, for the festivities.<\/p>\n

However, the reported plans remain unconfirmed and mark a significant shift from what sources close to the couple were saying just weeks ago.<\/p>\n

On October 10, friends of the Sussexes told The Times<\/a> that Harry and Meghan had no intention of spending Christmas with the Royal Family at Sandringham, believing the gathering would be far too uncomfortable given the ongoing tensions within the Firm.<\/p>\n

Instead, the couple were reportedly planning to return to their Montecito mansion in California, with their festive arrangements largely revolving around Ragland.<\/p>\n

“For Thanksgiving and Christmas, they will do whatever Doria wants to do,” the source claimed.<\/p>\n

“They won’t be having Christmas with the royal family. How could that even work? They know it would be too awkward and too difficult. They also know they’re not going to be invited, and they’re not waiting for an invitation.”<\/p>\n

The Sussexes are currently understood to be residing in the guest house of billionaire Ian Wace’s sprawling Cotswolds estate, where Ragland is also reportedly expected to stay over Christmas.<\/p>\n

While the couple\u2019s apparent change of heart has raised eyebrows, royal commentators have suggested there could be more to the decision than simply wanting to enjoy a traditional British Christmas.<\/p>\n

Speaking to award-winning journalist Paula Froelich on her YouTube channel, respected royal reporter Tom Sykes suggested the move could be part of a wider strategy to keep the Sussexes firmly in the spotlight.<\/p>\n

Sykes argued the reported decision<\/a> reinforced his belief that the couple’s public appeal increasingly revolved around their fractured relationship with the Royal Family.<\/p>\n

“I think this was probably too good an opportunity commercially to pass up or to create that conflict,” Sykes said.<\/p>\n

“And look, they’re advised by some very clever people in Hollywood- Sunshine Sachs- and I think perhaps from the point of view of Sunshine Sachs, to say, ‘Look, if you want to create attention and you want to create headlines, it’s to create these guessing games, for example, \u2018Will they, won\u2019t they stay for Christmas?\u2019 or ‘will they, won’t they go to Sandringham?'”<\/p>\n

“But ultimately, this is the big problem for the royal family. Because the only product the Sussexes have left is conflict with the royal family, and I think that’s why they’ve decided to stay.”<\/p>\n

Froelich appeared equally baffled by the apparent reversal, pointing out that the couple had reportedly been telling those close to them for months that they intended to return to California.<\/p>\n

“That\u2019s insane\u2026. Because for months now they\u2019ve been telling friends they\u2019re going to Montecito.”<\/p>\n

She added that “friends” of the Sussexes then told People that they were “going back to California, that they may stay for Thanksgiving in the UK, depending on what Doria wanted\u2026. But now they\u2019re just staying straight through.”<\/p>\n

Froelich also questioned whether the reported change could be connected to the controversy surrounding Meghan’s estranged father, Thomas Markle Sr, who has been accused of possessing child abuse material.<\/p>\n

Alternatively, she suggested the couple may simply be trying to minimise travel for their two young children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, after their major transatlantic move.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Is it because it was too much movement for the kids, or was it really just ‘Oops, we need to sit still for a minute while this Mishagas with her dad is floating around?'”<\/p>\n

Sykes, however, offered a different theory, suggesting the decision could be part of a calculated effort by Harry and Meghan to rebuild their public profile in Britain.<\/p>\n

“What they are what they are trying to do is they are trying to reestablish themselves in the British consciousness,” he speculated.<\/p>\n

“And you can\u2019t really say ‘We are British, we are moving back to Britain, I am a prince of England’ if you’re too scared to stay here for Christmas.”<\/p>\n

The royal commentator went on to argue that the Sussexes’ decisions should be viewed through the lens of their attempts to strengthen their public image and commercial appeal.<\/p>\n

“Everything that they The Sussexes do, you have to look through the lens of this desperate attempt to reinforce their brand identity\u2026 I think it’s very naive to look at it in the terms of, ‘Oh they just want to be here because it’s nice for the children or because they want Doria to experience Christmas in England’ – that’s not the case.<\/p>\n

“Everything that they’ve done from the beginning. From the moment they started planning Megxit, it’s all about: ‘How does this benefit Harry and Megan?’ That is the ultimate thing.”<\/p>\n

Despite the speculation, there has been no official confirmation from the Sussexes about where they intend to spend Christmas, or whether their reported plans could include any reunion with senior
