{"id":6828,"date":"2025-09-06T22:42:07","date_gmt":"2025-09-06T22:42:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/6828\/"},"modified":"2025-09-06T22:42:07","modified_gmt":"2025-09-06T22:42:07","slug":"openai-business-to-burn-115-billion-through-2029-the-information","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/6828\/","title":{"rendered":"OpenAI business to burn $115 billion through 2029 The Information"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OpenAI CEO Sam Altman walks on the day of a meeting of the White House Task Force on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Education in the East Room at the White House in Washington, D.C., U.S., September 4, 2025. <\/p>\n<p>Brian Snyder | Reuters<\/p>\n<p>OpenAI\u00a0has sharply raised its projected cash burn through 2029 to $115 billion as it ramps up spending to power the artificial intelligence behind its popular ChatGPT chatbot, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theinformation.com\/articles\/openai-says-business-will-burn-115-billion-2029\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Information reported<\/a> on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The new forecast is $80 billion higher than the company previously expected, the news outlet said, without citing a source for the report.<\/p>\n<p>OpenAI, which has become one of the world&#8217;s biggest renters of cloud servers, projects it will burn more than $8 billion this year, some $1.5 billion higher than its projection from earlier this year, the report said.<\/p>\n<p>The company did not immediately respond to Reuters request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>To control its soaring costs,\u00a0OpenAI\u00a0will seek to develop its own data center server chips and facilities to power its technology, The Information said.<\/p>\n<p>OpenAI\u00a0is set to produce its first artificial intelligence chip\u00a0next year\u00a0in partnership with U.S. semiconductor giant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/AVGO\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Broadcom<\/a>, the Financial Times reported on Thursday, saying\u00a0OpenAI\u00a0plans to use the chip internally rather than make it available to customers.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u00a0deepened\u00a0its tie-up with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/ORCL\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Oracle<\/a>\u00a0in July with a planned 4.5-gigawatts of data center capacity, building on its Stargate initiative, a project of up to $500 billion and 10 gigawatts that includes Japanese technology investor SoftBank.
