{"id":69055,"date":"2025-10-10T02:11:08","date_gmt":"2025-10-10T02:11:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/69055\/"},"modified":"2025-10-10T02:11:08","modified_gmt":"2025-10-10T02:11:08","slug":"man-charged-over-death-threats-made-against-mp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/69055\/","title":{"rendered":"Man charged over death threats made against MP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  [&amp;_p]:tit-sub-xl tit-sub-xl md:[&amp;_p]:d-tit-sub-xl md:d-tit-sub-xl mb-[1.3rem]\">A 19-year-old has been arrested and charged over a series of death threats made online against a Member of Parliament earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Police said the threats were allegedly sent via a social media platform in March 2025 and were serious enough to prompt a formal investigation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Further arrests were likely as the investigation continued, police added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">The man was arrested on October 8 and has been charged with causing harm by posting digital communication and threatening to kill. He was due to appear in the Gisborne District Court on October 15.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Detective Inspector Warren OIsson said the nature and volume of the threats were such that the case met the threshold for investigation and subsequent prosecution.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">&#8220;Threats of violence are unacceptable and will be thoroughly investigated.
