An electric scooter rider has been critically injured following a collision with a car in central Auckland this afternoon.<\/p>\n

Police said they were called to the intersection of Mount St and Symonds St at 4.05pm today.<\/p>\n

Officers could be seen inspecting the e-scooter, which was broken in half between the handlebars and riding deck, according to a 1News reporter at the scene.<\/p>\n

“Motorists and pedestrians are asked to follow the directions of emergency services staff at the scene,” a police spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

The road is closed in both directions from Wellesley St to Mount St.<\/p>\n

Detours are in place for bus routes 70, 22N, 22R, 24R, 25L, 27W, 75, 24B, 25B, 27H, and NX2.<\/p>\n

The crash is the second involving an e-scooter rider in Auckland in recent days, 1News understands. <\/p>\n

Around 1.42am on Friday, an e-scooter rider was critically injured after colliding with a car on Gillies Ave in Epsom.<\/p>\n

Hato Hone St John said they were notified of the incident around 12.42am.<\/p>\n

“One ambulance, one rapid response unit, and two operations managers attended,” a spokesperson told 1News.<\/p>\n
