Former NZ Kiwis international Jared Waerea-Hargreaves has finished his rugby league career on a high, helping Hull Kingston Rovers to a British Super League final win over Wigan Warriors.<\/p>\n
The hard-as-nails prop played a key role in the 24-6 win, knocking over 15 tackles, missing only one and running 94 metres, as his side completed the big treble, after already claiming the Challenge Cup and League Leaders’ Shield this season.<\/p>\n
Waerea-Hargreaves – who joined Hull KR this year, after a 15-year NRL career involving 316 matches – was in danger of missing the final, after copping a three-match ban for a head-contact tackle in Hull KR’s semifinal win over St Helens, but the decision was overturned on appeal, with the referee saying the head contact was minimal.<\/p>\n

Waerea-Hargreaves, 36, confirmed his playing days were over, when interviewed after the match on Sky Sports UK.<\/p>\n
“Super proud man. It’s why you play the game – to win.<\/p>\n
“I noticed it from day one – how hungry and motivated everyone was.<\/p>\n
“It’s been an amazing journey. I’ve been fortunate to play in Sydney for many years, but to then come to such a great club over here… I’m soaking it all up, but it’s over.<\/p>\n
“It’s all over.”<\/p>\n
Waerea-Hargreaves made his NRL debut for Manly Sea Eagles in 2009, playing six matches for them, before joining Sydney Roosters.<\/p>\n
He played his 300th game for them last year, going on to record 310 appearances for the club.<\/p>\n
He played 33 tests for New Zealand between 2009-22.<\/p>\n
