{"id":74151,"date":"2025-10-12T17:04:16","date_gmt":"2025-10-12T17:04:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/74151\/"},"modified":"2025-10-12T17:04:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-12T17:04:16","slug":"church-farewells-stanley-st-otago-daily-times-online-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/74151\/","title":{"rendered":"Church farewells Stanley St | Otago Daily Times Online News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A milestone in Queenstown\u2019s church and community life is being brought up today.<\/p>\n<p>A decommissioning service is being held at 6pm for the Presbyterian Church\u2019s Stanley St church, St Andrew\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Opened in 1968, it was sold early this year after the church decided its future lies in Frankton &#8211; where its St Margaret\u2019s Church is located &#8211; while the Stanley St site was also becoming more difficult to access.<\/p>\n<p>In turn, this meant community groups were also using the building less, causing a drop-off in rental income needed to maintain it.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday\u2019s service will be led by Lawrence-based southern presbytery moderator, the Reverend Andrew Harrex, following which there\u2019ll be fellowship and refreshments.<\/p>\n<p>Following the decommissioning, Queenstown services will all be held at St Margaret\u2019s. The church has said they\u2019ll use the proceeds of the sale to possibly expand this church or build on a greenfields Frankton site.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Sunday\u2019s service also ends the Presbyterian Church\u2019s 155-year presence in the CBD &#8211; the original St Andrew\u2019s opened at what\u2019s now the top of The Mall in 1870.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A milestone in Queenstown\u2019s church and community life is being brought up today.
