{"id":7476,"date":"2025-09-07T06:33:05","date_gmt":"2025-09-07T06:33:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/7476\/"},"modified":"2025-09-07T06:33:05","modified_gmt":"2025-09-07T06:33:05","slug":"tech-war-anthropics-claude-restrictions-put-overseas-ai-tools-backed-by-china-in-limbo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/7476\/","title":{"rendered":"Tech war: Anthropic\u2019s Claude restrictions put overseas AI tools backed by China in limbo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">An abrupt decision by American artificial intelligence firm Anthropic to restrict service to Chinese-owned entities anywhere in the world has cast uncertainty over some Claude-dependent overseas tools backed by China\u2019s tech giants.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">After Anthropic\u2019s notice on Friday that it would upgrade access restrictions to entities \u201cmore than 50 per cent owned \u2026 by companies headquartered in unsupported regions\u201d such as China, regardless of where they are, Chinese users have fretted over whether they could still access the San Francisco-based firm\u2019s industry-leading AI models.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">While it remains unknown how many entities could be affected and how the restrictions would be implemented, anxiety has started to spread among some users.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Singapore-based Trae, an AI-powered code editor launched by Chinese tech giant ByteDance for overseas users, is a known user of OpenAI\u2019s GPT and Anthropic\u2019s Claude models. The company had just announced a premium \u201cMax Mode\u201d on September 2, which boasted access to significantly more powerful coding abilities \u201cfully supported\u201d by Anthropic\u2019s Claude models.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Other Chinese tech giants offer Claude on their coding agents marketed to international users, including Alibaba Group Holding\u2019s Qoder and Tencent Holdings\u2019 CodeBuddy, which is still being beta tested.
