{"id":76909,"date":"2025-10-14T02:25:08","date_gmt":"2025-10-14T02:25:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/76909\/"},"modified":"2025-10-14T02:25:08","modified_gmt":"2025-10-14T02:25:08","slug":"havili-papalii-named-in-all-blacks-xv-squad-for-tour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/76909\/","title":{"rendered":"Havili, Papali&#8217;i named in All Blacks XV squad for tour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  [&amp;_p]:tit-sub-xl tit-sub-xl md:[&amp;_p]:d-tit-sub-xl md:d-tit-sub-xl mb-[1.3rem]\">All Blacks XV head coach Jamie Joseph has named eight players with Test experience, including David Havili, in his 30-man squad to play three matches in Europe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Midfielder Havili, a 30-year-old who has played 32 Tests and has not been required for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1news.co.nz\/2025\/10\/13\/live-all-blacks-announce-squad-for-european-tour\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">All Blacks<\/a> this year despite an outstanding Super Rugby season with the Crusaders, is the oldest player.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Loose forward Dalton Papali\u2019i, who played in the France series for the All Blacks but was not included in the Rugby Championship squad, has also been named, along with hooker Brodie McAlister and loosie Christian Lio-Willie, both of whom have played at the top level this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Papali&#8217;i, who has played 37 Tests, is the most experienced player in the squad.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1news.co.nz\/2025\/10\/14\/tuipulotu-ruled-out-of-all-blacks-tour-with-shoulder-injury\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">curious development this morning<\/a>, lock Sam Darry, due to be named in the squad, was promoted to the full All Blacks squad for their November tour after the full extent of Patrick Tuipulotu&#8217;s shoulder injury was revealed. (Source: Photosport)<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">The squad includes representation from 13 of the 14 NPC provincial unions and across all five of New Zealand Rugby\u2019s Super Rugby clubs, while there are 10 players back from the 2024 All Blacks XV squad.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">\u201cA core purpose of this team is to develop and promote players through to the next level and the effectiveness of the pathway was highlighted in the All Blacks Northern Tour squad which included seven members of the 2024 All Blacks XV squad,&#8221; Joseph said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">\u201cNo doubt some of these players will progress on to the All Blacks in future years and if that\u2019s the case we will have done our job. The core focus in the short term will be heading north to represent the black jersey and win three games in Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">The 2025 campaign will be the fourth for the All Blacks XV, New Zealand Rugby\u2019s second tier team behind the All Blacks.
