\n\tBAFTA nominee John Hannah<\/a> (\u201cThe Last of Us,\u201d \u201cFour Weddings and a Funeral\u201d) is set to lead \u201cDeath in Benidorm,\u201d a new detective drama series launching on the Paramount Skydance-owned U.K. network Channel 5<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe show \u2014\u00a0which is currently a working title \u2014\u00a0comes from Blackbox Multimedia and Clapperboard and centers around Dennis, a former detective trying to escape his past who swaps the chaos of the U.K. for a quieter life running a bar in Benidorm. But when tourists start turning up dead, he\u2019s reluctantly drawn back into detective work \u2014 egged on by his barmaid Rosa, a crime drama superfan. <\/p>\n

\n\tAs per the synopsis, with Dennis\u2019 real-world experience and Rosa\u2019s encyclopaedic TV knowledge, \u201ceach episode sees the duo tackling a new murder in paradise, whilst trying to remain on the right side of the local Spanish cops.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPlaying Rose is Carolina B\u00e9cquer as Rosa, while additional cast includes Ariadna Cabrol as Maria and Damian Schedler Cruz as Jes\u00f9s. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cDeath in Benidorm\u201d \u2014\u00a0which sounds more-than-a-little inspired by the BBC\u2019s long-running series \u201cDeath in Paradise\u201d \u2014\u00a0was commissioned by Greg Barnett, commissioning editor at 5 and is co-produced by Blackbox Multimedia (\u201cThe Ex-Wife,\u201d \u201cThe Serial Killer\u2019s Wife,\u201d \u201cThis Time Next Year\u201d) and Clapperboard (\u201cThe Teacher,\u201d \u201cThe Game,\u201d \u201cThe Madame Blanc Mysteries\u201d) with ZDF Studios onboard as international distributor.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI am thrilled to have John Hannah on board,\u201d said Barnett. \u201cHe\u2019s absolutely perfect for the role of Dennis \u2014 a character with sharp intellect, dry wit, and life experience \u2014 and from what I\u2019ve seen already, viewers will fall in love with him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tChiara Cardoso and Camilla Hammer are executive producers for Blackbox Multimedia, Mike Benson and Andy Morgan for Clapperboard, Robert Franke, VP drama for ZDF Studios with Viviane Richard, executive drama in Franke\u2019s team, acting as associate producer. Ian Jarvis (\u201cThe Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin\u201d) created the series, with Simon Delaney (\u201cDeath in Paradise,\u201d \u201cThe Young Offenders\u201d) on board as Director. Yasmine Akram (\u201cFlack\u201d), Claire Downes (\u201cThe Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin,\u201d \u201cThe Outlaws\u201d) and Tom Parry (\u201cYour Christmas or Mine,\u201d \u201cYour Christmas or Mine 2\u201d) are writers.<\/p>\n
