Moderator Whoopi Goldberg<\/a> launched Tuesday’s episode with a Hot Topics discussion about what’s shaping up to be one of the longest shutdowns in American history over party-to-party squabbling, with Sunny Hostin<\/a> offering a blunt analysis of why she thinks Republican players are unwilling to budge <\/a>on the extension of Barack Obama<\/a>-era Affordable Care Act subsidies.<\/p>\n “Everyone wants the subsidies to continue. They want the Affordable Care Act to continue,” Hostin said, before alleging, “The reason I think Mike Johnson is not holding session is because Donald Trump<\/a> wants to screw up Obama’s legacy. This is all about Donald Trump being the small, petty man that he is, and he doesn’t want Obama to have that legacy.”<\/p>\n ABC<\/p>\n Joy Behar on ‘The View’<\/p>\n Hostin speculated that things will change regarding outlook on the shutdown when “Americans will start feeling” its impact, long-term.<\/p>\n “At this point, there are all these workarounds being done, but the most at-risk Americans are going to suffer from these layoffs: school children, low-income families, homeless, unhoused people, and senior citizens,” the legal expert estimated.<\/p>\n She also pointed to what she’s seeing in terms of CDC reductions and special education cuts that will greatly impact a vulnerable group of Americans.<\/p>\n “He wants to be king of the world,” Goldberg added, with Hostin eventually noting that, in the end, “the Republican states are the ones that are going to lose healthcare” over their party’s refusal to work with Democrats on ending the shutdown.<\/p>\n Earlier in the discussion, Joy Behar<\/a> once again singled out praise for the controversial Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, whom has been a voice of reason amid the shutdown, according to The View cohosts.<\/p>\n “I’m getting worried that she and I agree on stuff now,” Behar said. “She has said that Republican men are weak and they’re afraid of strong Republican women.”<\/p>\n ABC<\/p>\n Whoopi Goldberg on ‘The View’<\/p>\n During a recent CNN interview, the Georgia politician urged people to “take off our Democrat jerseys, let’s take off our Republican jerseys, and we should do something responsible for the American people and fix this,” amid squabbling on both sides of the aisle from those who stand to end the shutdown.<\/p>\n Get your daily dose of entertainment news, celebrity updates, and what to watch with our\u00a0EW Dispatch newsletter<\/a>.<\/p>\n “That’s why Marjorie Taylor Greene has stepped up and said, these are my people you’re affecting here,” Goldberg added. “You have to give people their props when they do the right thing, when you step up, it doesn’t matter, as long as you do it. She has stepped up and said we’re not going about this in the right way.
