Police are seeking dashcam footage after a hit-and-run incident in the Hauraki district.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n
The incident happened on State Highway 2, Paeroa, on October 11, and police said it \u201ccould have been a fatal head-on crash\u201d.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
Police received a report a vehicle had collided with the side of a campervan while attempting a dangerous overtaking manoeuvre.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
The driver of the vehicle was travelling south on SH2 about 2pm and allegedly attempted to overtake multiple vehicles at one time, directly in the path of oncoming traffic in the northbound lane.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
To avoid a head-on collision, the driver swerved back towards the southbound lane, colliding with the side of the campervan.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
The driver then continued south without stopping.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
Sergeant Scott Tyrrell said the outcome of the dangerous driving could have been catastrophic.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cNot only has the driver of this vehicle not stopped to check if anyone was injured in the collision or to exchange details, they have also nearly caused what could have been a fatal head-on crash.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
He said this type of driving was \u201cunacceptable\u201d in any circumstances and it is \u201cpure luck\u201d that no one was injured.<\/p>\n

Police are aware of dashcam footage circulating online.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cI ask that anyone who has this footage to please share it with us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
