Don\u2019t expect to see your favorite Hawkins characters return in the Stranger Things<\/a> spinoff series.<\/p>\n

Show creators Matt<\/a> and Ross Duffer<\/a> told Variety<\/a> that they don\u2019t intend to leave behind any significant unfinished plot threads in the upcoming fifth and final season of the hit Netflix show. <\/p>\n

Moving forward to the spinoff, they will be introducing new characters rather than revisiting old ones or exploring more of the universe like Star Wars<\/a> has done with its spinoff films and series.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe do every last remaining thing we wanted to do with the Demogorgons and Mind Flayer and Vecna and the Upside Down and Hawkins and these characters. This is a complete story. It\u2019s done,\u201d Matt says about the main series, which will soon wrap with eight episodes. <\/p>\n

On the spinoff, Matt clarifies that their intentions are to do something more akin to Stranger Things\u2018 \u201cbrand\u201d and \u201cstyle\u201d rather than a continuation of the story that will soon be completed.<\/p>\n

The new show will focus on \u201ckids, adventures, sci-fi\/fantasy, rather than increasingly expand what could become an insanely convoluted mythology.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ross chimed in to add, \u201cThey\u2019re going to live in a bit of a different world. There\u2019s going to be connective tissue, but you\u2019re almost anthologizing in a way. Because we\u2019re not Star Wars. We can\u2019t be like, \u2018Oh, now we\u2019re on this planet.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re just too boxed in. It starts to get frustrating from a storytelling perspective,\u201d Matt added.<\/p>\n

So it sounds like fans might be able to expect some references and easter eggs, maybe even a cameo from a small character, but not much beyond that. <\/p>\n

But the Duffer Brothers still aren\u2019t sharing any details about what the new show will be like or what kind of story it will tell. <\/p>\n

They will be \u201cheavily creatively involved\u201d with its creation and help \u201cshepherd it along\u201d but they have a new Paramount deal lined up<\/a> and will not be showrunners on the spinoff series.<\/p>\n
