Pakistan has sent its first-ever hyperspectral satellite into orbit, a \u201cmajor milestone\u201d it says will help advance national objectives from agriculture to urban planning.<\/p>\n
The country\u2019s space agency, SUPARCO, announced the \u201csuccessful launch\u201d of the H1 satellite from northwestern China\u2019s Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Hyperspectral satellites can detect subtle chemical or material changes on the ground that traditional satellites cannot, making them especially useful for things like tracking crop quality, water resources or damage from natural disasters.<\/p>\n
Pakistan\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the technology is expected to \u201csignificantly enhance national capacities\u201d in fields like precision agriculture, environmental monitoring, urban planning and disaster management.<\/p>\n
