{"id":8895,"date":"2025-09-08T02:15:23","date_gmt":"2025-09-08T02:15:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/8895\/"},"modified":"2025-09-08T02:15:23","modified_gmt":"2025-09-08T02:15:23","slug":"ayurvedic-doctors-dispute-discontinued-allowance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/8895\/","title":{"rendered":"Ayurvedic doctors dispute discontinued allowance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-201286\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Ayurvedic-doctor.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"359\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The Government Ayurvedic Medical Officers\u2019 Association has raised concern over the discontinuation of the additional allowance granted to Ayurvedic doctors.<\/p>\n<p>President of the Association, Dr. Upula Kondasinghe, says that Western medical doctors receive a higher additional allowance per month.<\/p>\n<p>He further said that Ayurvedic doctors are granted allowances for 20 hours, and that was discontinued after the current government came into power.<\/p>\n<p>During the tenure of Health Minister Ramesh Pathirana, a committee had approved a 120-hour allowance for Ayurvedic doctors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, under President Ranil Wickremesinghe\u2019s administration, due to the prevailing economic crisis, it was decided to reduce this to an interim allowance of just 20 hours, he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Upula Kondasinghe claims that the discontinuation of even the reduced allowance under the current government constitutes a grave injustice to Ayurvedic doctors.<\/p>\n<p>He further points out that all top positions in the Ministry of Health, including the Minister, Deputy Minister, Secretary, and the Minister\u2019s Private Secretary, are held by individuals representing Western medicine.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As a result, Ayurvedic doctors face significant challenges in having their concerns addressed and resolved, he added.
