{"id":91124,"date":"2025-10-21T00:50:09","date_gmt":"2025-10-21T00:50:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/91124\/"},"modified":"2025-10-21T00:50:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-21T00:50:09","slug":"staten-island-university-hospital-hosts-143rd-charity-ball-with-a-totally-80s-twist-72-photos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/91124\/","title":{"rendered":"Staten Island University Hospital hosts 143rd Charity Ball with a totally \u201880\u2019s twist (72 photos)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"3RYIB3VENFHMTOUQ65IERE2VUU\">STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 The evening was a celebration of leadership, legacy and the spirit of giving &#8211; wrapped in neon lights and 1980s nostalgia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"BI5DZ4FI2BARHDO2A6DJG6OH6M\">Northwell Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) hosted its 143rd annual Charity Ball, welcoming nearly 450 guests to Nicotra\u2019s Ballroom at the Hilton Garden Inn, Bloomfield, Saturday night. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"W4RY3YSP3RGZXH4AFONSQB2FUM\">The \u201cBack to the \u201980s\u201d themed gala transformed the ballroom into a retro wonderland complete with big hair, bold colors, and plenty of synth beats, all in support of the Florina Cancer Center.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"QS25GYIUJNHTJFNU4A47WLAGX4\">For more than a century, the Charity Ball has been one of Staten Island\u2019s longest-standing philanthropic traditions, raising critical funds to advance care and innovation at SIUH. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"F6XJQO7QXZFWDCLYUIU7EFX4BE\">This year\u2019s event honored Dr. Brahim Ardolic, whose two-decade leadership has helped shape SIUH into a world-class health institution. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"Z2SDBVYJYVGRRCEY2BNZ6MCT5I\">Dr. Ardolic, who recently assumed his new role as President of Northwell Health\u2019s Metro Market, was celebrated for his vision, compassion, and steadfast dedication to the Staten Island community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ML6WXAVPLFEFRJB2VTOD7WOURE\">Dr. Ardolic joined SIUH in 2004 and has since held numerous leadership roles, from emergency medicine director to hospital president. Under his guidance, SIUH expanded emergency services, women\u2019s health, and cancer care, and launched several new centers of excellence that bring advanced treatment closer to home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"Q3WVJSZVG5ANXDOHRP62KMEEXM\">In her remarks, Meagan Sills, SIUH\u2019s newly appointed Senior Vice President and President of SIUH, paid tribute to her predecessor, calling him \u201ca steady hand in crisis, a mentor to clinicians, and a source of compassion for patients and families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"LTFMITRVJBBZXL7OF6AB4JJFCI\">\u201cDr. Ardolic\u2019s greatest legacy lives in people &#8211; the staff he\u2019s inspired, the physicians he\u2019s trained, and the countless patients whose lives have been touched by his dedication,\u201d Sills said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"OK57ZQA3WFAEZHRH34FKFHMIRE\">The evening featured a heartfelt video tribute chronicling Dr. Ardolic\u2019s 20-year journey at SIUH, followed by emotional remarks from the honoree himself, who reflected on his time with the hospital and the community he calls home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"DRIJD3EAVNA6NOOCN54H4SA7JM\">\u201cI\u2019m one of the luckiest people alive,\u201d Dr. Ardolic said to a rousing round of applause. \u201cMost people never get one dream job \u2014 I\u2019ve had three. Every step of my journey has been shaped by the people who believed in me and this community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"GCJF2RHZRVF3XBZQPAKOLDNWVU\">Accepting the honor, Dr. Ardolic turned the spotlight back on his colleagues. \u201cI don\u2019t believe in individual honors. I accept this recognition in the name of the thousands of people who, every single day, made me look good by taking care of the people of Staten Island,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"5MRUVANSDBC2ZAA7JUAUUKMXSI\">AN \u201980s PARTY FOR A CAUSE<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"JLZUL5MCIBHUPEEMMWWW25XDYY\">Co-chairs Dr. Efrat LaMandre and Dr. Carolyn Raia, who also serve on the SIUH Foundation Board, welcomed guests decked out in vintage glam attire to the lively, neon-themed affair.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ZBXHJQ454RB67MKXNT5XEL3YHM\">\u201cTonight, as we step back into the 80s, we step forward into a celebration of leadership, community, and the future of healthcare on Staten Island,\u201d said Dr. LaMandre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"6EGXYLWTUVECDDYYF7RYFXNFIM\">Funds raised during the gala will directly benefit the Florina Cancer Center, helping ensure Staten Islanders facing cancer can access the highest level of care without leaving the borough. This year\u2019s event raised more than $325,000 to support life-saving programs and services at the center.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"SFNY7MU7RBABBANW24GOALAUDI\">Dr. Raia noted, \u201cThis room is filled with the heart and soul of our borough &#8211; supporters, families, patients, and champions who believe that excellence belongs here in our backyard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"AWG5PPQY5ZF3TCXEE7L3T7XOMY\">COMMUNITY AND CELEBRATION<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"OPFWUGN2UFDPZHHWNKLUIMVNIY\">Among those in attendance were Borough President Vito Fossella, Councilmember Kamillah Hanks, Surrogate Matthew Titone and Judge Catherine DiDomenico, along with Northwell leaders. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"L2JU7K2MBRCSHLHLXAG4CBSF7I\">Fossella took the podium to present Dr. Ardolic with an official Borough Proclamation \u2013 declaring Oct. 18, 2025, Dr. Brahim Ardolic Day, recognizing his enduring contributions to healthcare on Staten Island. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"TPNLSIVEORAIRDXRCW3RZ7GQYU\">He also announced a $1.3 million investment toward cutting-edge technology upgrades at the hospital; including advancements in cardiac surgery, sleep medicine and patient monitoring &#8211; ensuring Staten Islanders continue to receive top-tier care close to home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"7YUNGUG2HZBUNC5SLZMFPDCB5E\">\u201cWe are all here to leave this place slightly better than we found it,\u201d Dr. Ardolic said. \u201cThirty years from now, I want the people of Staten Island to have an even better hospital than the one we built together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"AMJKYWR6H5GMRLTO3CEA24ZHOM\">As the formal program concluded, guests turned up the volume &#8211; dancing the night away to classic 1980s hits beneath a cascade of lights.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"MPAQEPIOE5DPBOBDADWMGHHCPM\">The event coordinated by a dedicated team captured the perfect blend of nostalgia and purpose \u2013 a reminder that even in an \u201980s flashback, the heart of Staten Island University Hospital beats for the future. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"DCW4H3U6MNF27HHWSVZKU2QOH4\">MORE ABOUT DR. BRAHIM ARDOLIC<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"FN2VC2RPOZC53DGVXBDIIPRJMU\">Dr. Ardolic serves as President of Northwell Health\u2019s newly established Metro Market, overseeing strategy and operations across Manhattan, Staten Island, Brooklyn and Western Queens. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"7AIRI25YWBD65EACALT2IX5IXY\">In that role, he leads a diverse portfolio of hospitals, ambulatory services and service lines, advancing access, quality, and experience for the communities Northwell serves. He is also spearheading Northwell\u2019s strategic expansion into new markets through targeted growth initiatives and partnerships.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"THEZGAFHHBFARBADZGPOG33OGQ\">Prior to this new role, Dr. Ardolic served as the Senior Vice President and Deputy Regional Executive Director for Northwell Health\u2019s Western Region. In this role, he expanded his scope beyond SIUH to help shape the future of the market.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"BK4WYRQRBRFDRAWCOZY6RMC3E4\">As president of SIUH, Dr. Ardolic spearheaded the successful implementation of strategic plans designed to provide comprehensive advanced medical care to Staten Island\u2019s half-million residents. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"HQAOUH3IVZB57NFBKMN7UML5XY\">This mission addresses a long-standing need for local access to specialized services and included the development of major clinical expansions such as the Florina Cancer Center, the Gruppuso Family Women and Newborn Center and the Lois &amp; Richard Nicotra Heart Institute.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"SJNZHDQLIJH3XL5W7FVFCXRUUM\">At SIUH, Dr. Ardolic served in various leadership positions. As chair of emergency medicine, he helped transform the hospital\u2019s Department of Emergency Medicine into a modern facility equipped with a regionally and nationally recognized academic department. Dr. Ardolic also designed SIUH\u2019s 74-bed emergency department, developed IT systems and initiated numerous process efficiencies, and he worked to support SIUH\u2019s training programs and expanded its grant-funded portfolio as vice president of research.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"K22KU22LNJFY3N27XELJDLPY6A\">Among his proudest achievements were establishing the hospital\u2019s Emergency Medicine Residency Program, which has improved quality by building a pipeline of talented emergency medicine physicians, and assisting local residents during Hurricanes Sandy and Irene. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"UISSRLHEWVDS3DNX35NX3TAB24\">Dr. Ardolic started his career in medicine as an attending physician at King\u2019s County Hospital Center and he has published numerous articles on emergency medicine. He is the immediate past president of the New York Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), where he has served on the Board of Directors for ten years, and medical director of the Wagner College Physician Assistant Program, teaching radiology and laboratory interpretation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"SUCNYWJB2BBIDBU6YTY2WUQDDM\">Dr. Ardolic holds a bachelor\u2019s degree from Brooklyn College and received his medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center, where he completed his residency in emergency medicine.<\/p>\n<p>If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
