SINGAPORE \u2013 Two updated Covid-19 vaccines will be available from Oct 27 at more than 600 general practitioner (GP) clinics and 10 polyclinics islandwide as well as through mobile vaccination teams.<\/p>\n
The LP.8.1 Moderna\/Spikevax and LP.8.1 Pfizer-BioNTech\/Comirnaty vaccines offer better protection against current and emerging strains of the virus compared with previous iterations, said the Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA) in a statement on Oct 24.<\/p>\n
These latest vaccines have similar safety profiles as their predecessors and will be administered at vaccination locations that already provide the earlier shots.<\/p>\n
In its statement, the CDA cited recommendations by the Expert Committee on Immunisation on who ought to get jabbed.<\/p>\n
The group includes people who are aged 60 and older, medically vulnerable individuals aged six months and older, and residents of aged-care facilities.<\/p>\n
\u201cHealthcare workers and persons living or working with medically vulnerable individuals are also encouraged to consider receiving the vaccine,\u201d said the CDA.<\/p>\n
\u201cCovid-19 waves will continue to occur from time to time and can cause severe disease among those who are older or medically vulnerable.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo increase their protection against severe disease, we encourage everyone to remain updated with their vaccination based on the prevailing recommendations, much like vaccination against influenza,\u201d the agency said.<\/p>\n
Regarding those who have yet to get vaccinated against Covid-19, the CDA said individuals aged between six months and four years should receive two vaccine doses, carried out eight weeks apart.<\/p>\n
Anyone aged five years or older will receive one dose of the vaccine.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, vaccinated individuals who are taking an additional dose of the vaccine should do so around a year after their last jab, with a minimal gap of at least five months.<\/p>\n
The vaccines are free for all Singapore citizens, permanent residents, long-term pass holders and certain short-term pass holders.<\/p>\n
The public can check gowhere.gov.sg\/vaccine<\/a> to find the nearest vaccination site and the vaccine type offered.<\/p>\n Appointments at a participating GP clinic can be booked via vaccine.gov.sg\/covid<\/a>, while polyclinic appointments can be scheduled through HealthHub.<\/p>\n Those who are part of Healthier SG can get their Covid-19 jab at the clinic they are enrolled under, if it offers the vaccine.<\/p>\n The mobile vaccination teams will continue to be deployed across the island, with the latest schedule accessible on go.gov.sg\/mvt-s<\/a><\/p>\n Source: The Straits Times \u00a9 SPH Media Limited.
