As well as Nick Woltemade, Newcastle United have been looking to sign Davide Frattesi from Inter Milan.

It has been a wild 24 hours for the Magpies. Newcastle are set to sign Nick Woltemade, and he might not be the last arrival at St James’ Park this summer.

Eddie Howe is looking to bring in another striker, while a centre-midfielder could also be on Newcastle United’s radar.

That could see them return to Milan, having already bought Malick Thiaw from AC. However, this time they are looking at their rivals Inter.

Davide Frattesi is the player who is attracting interest from Newcastle United, as they attempt to bring him to Tyneside and play him alongside fellow Italy international Sandro Tonali.

According to the Times, Newcastle United have spoken to Inter Milan about the possibility of signing Frattesi on loan before the summer transfer window closes on Monday.

The Times add that Inter Milan will only let the 25-year-old leave if the deal includes an option to buy worth £35million.

While they would prefer to receive that money now, the Times state that the Serie A giants would be open to waiting until next summer and sanctioning a loan deal for this season.

That would suit Newcastle United, who will take their summer spending beyond £200million with the arrival of Woltemade from Stuttgart.

Newcastle United want a midfielder, but are not desperate

Frattesi would be another exciting addition to the Newcastle United squad, but transfer expert Graeme Bailey has exclusively told Geordie Boot Boys that the need for him to arrive has lessened since Monday’s defeat to Liverpool.

Coming out of that game, Joelinton and Sandro Tonali were massive injury concerns. However, neither player is going to be out long-term.

Tonali is in contention to play against Leeds, while Joelinton is expected to return immediately after the international break.

While Tonali and Joelinton’s injuries are not too bad, Geordie Boot Boys understand that Newcastle are still interested in signing a centre-midfielder before the 7pm deadline on Monday.

A loan arrival is possible but not essential, with Frattesi one to keep an eye on.
