The still unexplained disappearance of the Gran Premio 1000 Guineas (G1) from the national calendar left the sophomore fillies without major turf targets during the first half of the second semester at San Isidro. Thus, on the road to the Alvear (G2) and the Acebal (G1), the Clásico Marina Lezcano (1600mT) assumes an important role this Friday.

Part of a high-profile card on the turf—albeit with just six entries—the feature will have as its headliner Catys Queen (Lizard Island), who bids to build on the strong impression she made when runner-up in the Clásico Bayakoa (L) 34 days ago, finishing five lengths behind Mi Confesión (Suggestive Boy), the Palermo-based filly now targeting the Polla (G1).

Also coming out of that same race is Mi Gran Chica (Seahenge), who checked in fourth, just a length and a head behind the favorite. With such a slim margin to overturn, the Stud Friends representative rates as a serious player as well.

More than two months have passed since Great Fight (Equal Stripes) broke her maiden over this same track and trip on wet ground. Though it took her a bit longer than expected to clear that condition, she has reportedly progressed nicely in the interim.

Brazilian-bred Pale Ale (Outstrip) opened her career with a victory and now looks to keep her unbeaten record intact as she steps up in class. Further down the pecking order are Invocación (Treasure Beach) and Sanky (Seize), both seeking redemption after disappointing efforts last time out.
