St Helens have made a decision on the future of Konrad Hurrell whilst recruiting another player from Salford Red Devils.
Having signed Deon Cross from the Red Devils earlier in the year, Saints have added another Salford player with Shane Wright joining the Red Vee on loan until the end of the season.
With Wright being an overseas player and St Helens being full on their overseas quota of seven players, it’s seen them deregister centre Konrad Hurrell, who is still yet to feature for Saints in Super League this year.
The club have thanked fan favourite Hurrell for his ‘understanding and help’ in allowing the move to take place.
With Hurrell off contract at the end of the season and having only played once for St Helens all year in the Challenge Cup against West Hull, it likely spells the end of his time with the club.
St Helens confirm Shane Wright signing as Konrad Hurrell exits
With his exit confirmed, it allowed Saints to sign Wright, a man who they have been reportedly pursuing for some time and now they’ve finally managed to get the deal over the line ahead of their play-off push.
Announcing the deal, Saints said: “St.Helens can confirm back-rower Shane Wright has joined the Club on loan for the remainder of the 2025 Betfred Super League season.
“The towering Australian forward joins the Red V from Salford Red Devils following the de-registration of the beloved fan favourite Konrad Hurrell.”
On his move, Wright said: “I’m so excited to get to work with the boys. I’ve had some really great conversations with Wello [Paul Wellens] and I can’t wait to work with him and the fellow coaching staff.
“I know how prestigious a club that St.Helens is, so to come and join this team, I am truly buzzing about it.”
Wellens paid tribute to Hurrell before praising the addition of Wright, stating: “Koni is such a larger-than-life character, one that we have loved being part of our club, and we truly thank him for his efforts as a Saint. We wish him, Bec, and the kids all the best with their next chapter when it comes.
“As for Shane, we are delighted to bring him into the Club on loan until the end of the season. I am more than certain he will add a lot to our team.”
