The Vikings made it five wins in a row this afternoon after a convincing 40-12 victory over Hunslet at the DCBL Stadium.

Allan Coleman’s side ran in seven tries to climb up to 7th place in the Betfred Championship.

Jon Bennison opened the scoring early on, finishing a slick passing move to touch down out wide.

Hunslet hit back midway through the half, as Finley Balback dummied his way through the line to level the scores.

Widnes regained control before the break when Jake Maizen took a short ball from Declan Patton, wriggling free of defenders to put the Vikings back in front at half-time.

It was a flying start to the second half as Jack Owens produced a sensational solo effort, spotting a gap in the defence, racing 40 metres and stepping past the fullback to extend the lead.

Adam Lawton would grab a try shortly after as he took a flat pass from Tom Gilmore to power his way over. He then crossed for his second try of the afternoon, fighting his way over from close range to give the Vikings a 22-point lead.

Matty Fozard then got in on the act, burrowing his way over for a textbook hookers try.

The visitors pulled one back through Zach McSwiney as he went out of dummy half to score, but it was Widnes who had the final say.

Max Roberts broke from deep, finding Jake Maizen in support to cross for his second try of the afternoon and wrap up a comprehensive 40-12 victory for the Vikings.

We turn our attention to a mouth-watering clash with Halifax Panthers in the race for the playoffs next Sunday at the Shay. Tickets are available HERE.
