Highly rated trainer Robert Garcia has shared his thoughts on the potential match-up between Jermell Charlo and Errol Spence Jr.
Charlo is yet to make his return to the ring since he suffered the second defeat of his professional career to Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez back in September of 2023, falling short in his attempt at becoming the undisputed super-middleweight world champion.
As for Spence, the 35-year-old from Long Island, New York has been inactive since he was beaten by pound-for-pound great Terence Crawford back in July 2023, surrendering his unified WBC, WBA and IBF world welterweight in the process in their monumental showdown for the undisputed championship at 147lbs.
The pair have been linked to a clash after Charlo made a clear callout to Spence on social media.
In an interview with ESNEWS, Garcia spoke out and shared his verdict on the intriguing potential clash between the two, as he backs ‘Iron Man’ to get the job done over the former unified welterweight champion.
“Errol Spence hasn’t fought in a long time right? I don’t know how good he’s doing … As it is right now I’ll pick Charlo to win.”
Charlo previously held the undisputed super-welterweight championship, achieving this feat back in May of 2022 when he stopped Argentina’s Brian Castano in the tenth round of their showdown at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
The 35-year-old from Louisiana will be looking to return to world title contention in the near future, with further updates on his planned clash with fellow countryman Spence set to be made in the coming weeks.
