Roy Jones Jr knows Chris Eubank Jr‘s boxing ability better than almost anyone.

The former multi-weight world champion worked with the Brit from 2020 and oversaw successful fights against Marcus Morrison, Wanik Awdijan and Liam Williams. Then came the first fateful fight with Liam Smith, which saw Eubank take his first KO loss, so he left Jones and temporarily hooked up instead with Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre to win the rematch with a KO of his own.

Most recently, Eubank teamed with Jonathon Banks and fought Conor Benn in April. It was a gruelling fight, with Benn starting well but eventually tiring as the naturally smaller man. That allowed Eubank to get a foothold and land more punches to give him a unanimous points decision come the final bell.

Speaking to talkSPORT Boxing, Jones Jr was positive Eubank Jr could still make it to the top and win a world title, despite now being 35 years of age.

“Yes, without a question. He definitely had it in him. And if I was training him now he would definitely have a world title in him.

Because he knows a lot and picks stuff up really quick, quicker than anyone I have ever trained before. So he definitely had a world title in him, yes.”

Before that, he must again see off the challenge of his generational rival Benn. The much anticipated rematch takes place in November at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the younger fighter coming up two weight divisions, while a rehydration clause will again hamper Eubank Jr on the day of the fight.
