The soap is usually aired on iPlayer at 6am each day of transmission, but it will only be available to watch at the same time it airs on BBC One at 7.30pm this evening.

However, news of the schedule change has left fans “excited” as EastEnders has teased “secrets” of Zoe’s past are set to come to light as she steps foot back in Walford, sending “shockwaves” around Albert Square and beyond.

@bbceastenders wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “On Wednesday 3rd September, EastEnders will simulcast on BBC iPlayer and BBC One at 1930, as secrets of Zoe’s past come to the fore during her explosive return to Walford which sends shockwaves through the Slaters and Walford.”

In response, one viewer wrote: “Someone’s most likely a goner.. this isn’t looking good! ruh roh..

“I’m majorly excited although for this week. Zoe returning is something I’ve wanted for a LONG time.”

Another wrote: “So excited!!”

But many think they have worked out Zoe’s “secret” which is that she could be Joel Marshall’s (Max Murray) mother.

As someone commented on X underneath the @bbceastenders post: “Joel’s mum and her new relationship with Max I fear.”

A second person chimed in: “Zoe has to be Joel’s mum and then maybe Max will return as well in the episode.”

This fan also agreed: “SHE’S SO Joel’s mum.”

Meanwhile, a user added: “Zoe is definitely Joel’s mum – I’ve predicted it for a while and all the clues have been there. Imagine if Oscar gets shot then it’s revealed later on that Zoe and Max are engaged ( hence the Cleo is getting married clue from a few weeks back).”

Yet others were not a fan of the latest EastEnders soap theory, as an account shared: “Please please PLEASE don’t make her Joel’s mum! I know it’s ‘Soapland’ and all, but even that’s TOO much of a coincidence. It’s basically the whole Cindy/Rose and George thing again.”

The Radio Times synopsis also details Wednesday’s episode: “With many locals holed up in the Vic at Patrick and Yolande’s wedding reception, things go from bad to worse when they learn who has been shot, and a life hangs in the balance.”
