Gogglebox viewers have been left gobsmacked after discovering that two of their favourite stars are related to a well-known soap star.

Pete and Sophie Sandiford first graced our screens on the Channel 4 show back in 2017 for series 10, and it didn’t take long for the siblings to win over the hearts of viewers.

Over the years, Pete and Sophie, who hail from Blackpool, have had fans rolling with laughter thanks to their sharp wit, hilarious one-liners and amusing takes on television highlights.

Away from the popular TV programme, Pete is at the helm of a building company, while Sophie spends her days as a florist.

In terms of their personal lives, Pete is happily married to his wife Paige and they are proud parents to two children, Jimmy and Eva. Sophie is romantically involved with her boyfriend Ben McKeown, reports the Manchester Evening News.

However, it appears some fans are only just discovering that Pete and Sophie have some very famous relatives. It seems humour runs in the family as their uncles are none other than Barry David Elliott and Paul Harman Elliott, better known as the Chuckle Brothers.

The family members have often shared photos with each other over the years. Paul once posted a selfie with Pete and Sophie, captioning it: “This day 2018 with my great niece and nephew.”

Sophie also previously paid homage to her beloved great uncle Barry following his passing in August 2018. She said: “A truly lovely and funny man to be around.”

She continued: “You filled millions of childhoods with laughter and entertainment including mine and Peter’s. You will be sadly missed by many. Rest in peace Uncle Barry. Lots of love from me, to you.”

In response to the revelation about Pete and Sophie’s famous uncles, fans expressed their surprise. One fan posted on a Facebook fan page alongside a picture of the relatives: “Pete and Sophie’s uncles are the chuckle brothers! ? ?” Another added: “I didn’t know this either.” A third commented: “Explains a lot!”.

Paul and Barry are best remembered for their roles in the much-loved children’s TV show Chucklevision, which aired from 1987 to 2009. Over the years, Paul has also made appearances in BBC soap Doctors and ITV’s Benidorm.

Gogglebox series 26 starts on Friday, September 5th, 2025, on Channel 4.
